THE SCOUT MASTER'S CORNER
I would personally like to Welcome all of the Scouts, Leaders and Parents of Troop 312 back to what should be a fantastic Scout Year for the Troop. Our Scouts were very busy during the Summer even though we didn't regularly meet. A large group of Scouts went to Summer Camp at Camp Tyrell and many earned Rank Advancements and Merit Badges which we will present and recognize at our Scout's Achievements Court of Honor in October. All parents should plan to attend. Check out the Troop Announcements for details or check with your Scouts.
Three of our Scouts attended the National Youth Leadership Training and have come back with a lot of ideas on how to run the Troop through the Patrol Method.
Another group of us attended the National High Adventure Camp, Sea Base, which is located in the Florida Keys. We participated in the Out Island Adventure which had us kayak about 5 miles out to a Barrier Reef Island (no electricity or water) for a week of activities. We had a day of Deep Sea Fishing where we caught some Mai-Mai (Dolphin),which we had fresh for Dinner one night. A couple of the Scouts went Night Fishing and a few even caught a couple of Sharks. We did some snorkeling on one of the Reefs and all had a Great Time! We even had a couple of hours to explore a little bit of Key West where we took in the Mel Fisher Museum, watched Cigars being rolled, checked out a Surf Shop and had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.
One of our other Scouts attended the National High Adventure Camp, Philmont, which is in New Mexico. It is a Backpacking Camp and from what I heard he liked it so much he may be going back again next year!
We had our Troop Junior Leadership Training at Mt Allamuchy Scout Reservation this past weekend with most of our newly elected Scout Leaders reviewing their responsibilities, learning about Leadership and doing some Team Building Exercises. Our Scouts even planned out the new Scout Year with many activities planned all the way through June. Way to Go guys!!!
We had our first Troop Meeting this past Tuesday and our New Leaders rose to the challenge of getting everyone into new Patrols. We also passed out the Troop Calendar with all that they have planned to everyone who attended. We even had two new Scouts join us! Welcome!
Troop 312 looks like it will have its Best Year yet! All parents are welcome to attend the Troop Meetings, Committee Meetings and any other activities planned for our Troop. With everyone's participation we can have the Best Scout Year yet!!! THANKS to all who have made this Troop what it is, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! If you haven't yet jumped in please don't hesitate, the more the merrier ANYTHING is a help!
Thank You for Your Support and Time,
Yours in Scouting,
Mr Miller
